Biography Brief

Nick Augelli is a legendary basketball coach who has been associated with Crosby High School in Waterbury, CT for more than four decades. Augelli was born on February 10, 1946, in Waterbury, CT, and grew up in the city. He attended Crosby High School, where he played basketball and baseball and graduated in 1964.

After graduating from high school, Augelli went on to attend Southern Connecticut State University, where he played basketball and baseball. He graduated from Southern Connecticut in 1968 with a Bachelor's degree in Education.

In 1971, Augelli returned to his alma mater, Crosby High School, as an assistant basketball coach. He was promoted to head coach in 1974 and has been the head coach ever since, leading the team to numerous victories and championships over the years. Augelli's teams have won 12 Connecticut state championships, including five in a row from 1988 to 1992, and have been runners-up in the state tournament on nine other occasions.

Augelli is known for his strict discipline and no-nonsense approach to coaching, as well as his ability to develop players and get the most out of his teams. He is highly respected by his peers and has been honored with numerous awards and accolades throughout his career.
In addition to coaching, Augelli has also worked as a teacher at Crosby High School, where he has taught physical education and health classes. He has been a positive influence on countless students over the years and is considered a beloved figure in the Waterbury community.

​Augelli has been inducted into the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the New England Basketball Hall of Fame, and the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame, among others. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest high school basketball coaches in Connecticut history and has left a lasting impact on the sport and the community.
