Bunker Hill Independence Day Celebrations of Ole Were No Joke
The Bunker Hill Improvement Association (BHIA) is a long-dissolved pre-cursor to the later Bunker Hill Community Club, itself also the long-dissolved, and the current Bunker Hill Neighborhood Association (BHNA). The former, Bunker Hill Improvement Association, was an instrumental and patriotic organization of our beloved Brass City.
Among other events, the Bunker Hill Improvement Association (BHIA) sponsored annual Independence Day Celebrations, the like of which is unknown to juniors of our nonagenarians. The highly-anticipated celebrations included such attractions as the raising of our American Flag - typically done by the Boy Scouts - contests, comedy, costumes, competitions, quoits, dashes, shoe races, baseball, sack races, and much more.
Of course, the celebration included a parade. The Bunker Hill Improvement Association's parades were far more than typical. Multiple floats, multiple drum corps, other musical bands, clowns, and so much more were highlighted. The floats panned specialties to include
