2. History of the Manhan Meadows Hill Neighborhood
   1. ​Mahan Meadows is an area approximating what is now known as Town Plot Hill, extending into present day Naugatuck through the junction of the present day Naugatuck River and Steele Rivers [when they were referred to as the Mattatuck River and Steel's Brook]
      1. ​During the time when all of current Waterbury and all lands between current Waterbury and current Farmington were all part of the Farmington Plantation and Settlement, and the area approximating the present day City of Waterbury was referred to as Mattatock 
      2. Some 30 families were known to have occupied the land at the time that a petition was made to Farmington for authorization to settle a plantation upon the included parcels
   2. The area consisted of about 600 acres, on both sides of what is now called the Naugatuck River
   3. The land was originally ascribed to be a plantation in it's own rite
   4. Note that, at the time, the land parcels were referred to as Mattatock while the river was referred to as Mattatuck.  Upon approval of the plantation, it was referred to as Mattatuck (as opposed to Mattatock).
   5. This plantation was approved during the time when one of the King of England's Justices of the Peace, and Treasurer of the Colony of Connecticut, was assigned to regulate the ongoings of the plantation
