He revolutionized modern movies with his "Bristolphone" invention, which simultaneously recorded voices and other sounds within motion - an impossibility before his invention. Some of his over 100 revolutionary patented inventions include: Steel lacing for industrial belts, the Pressure Chart Recorder, the Pyrometer, and the Audiophone. Bristol also produced at least 1 major motion picture at his Waterbury company. The Bristol neighborhood is named after him, and the Bristol Fires took place, in the Bristol neighborhood, at his former company buildings. He was also a well-known Professor of Mathematics, and environmentalist. Bristol "gained worldwide recognition while making possible major advances in both pure scientific knowledge and industrial technology", according to Revolvy. Bristol is 1 of 50 people who were inducted into the City of Waterbury Hall of Fame.
