The International NeighborhoodThe International Neighborhood was once a vibrant community within Waterbury. Legend has it, strictly by coincidence, each house was owned by immigrants from a different country. Everyone lived side-by-side with people from a different part of the world, and in a harmonious community where everyone held true to their culture and open and respectful of all other cultures. Perhaps this spirit lives on as is manifested at The Gathering – a tradition-in-the-making of cultures from around the world and present in Waterbury.
The international neighborhood of Waterbury was a once thriving area in a key location with commerce taking place among people who communicated without benefit of similar language. The neighborhood met its demise as the decline in our brass industry began, the great flood of '55 hit, and the world wonder Mix Master required the destruction of many International houses.
