Population and DemographyThere is no reliable nor accurate way of estimating the population numbers of Ecuadorian Americans in Waterbury due to the misappropriation of the Hispanic term being applied to these descendants of Ecuador. Extremely loosely, there is a faint similarity between the Ecuadorians culture to Hispanics, clearly Ecuadorians are in no way ethnically Hispanic.

History of the People of EcuadorAlthough the latest fashion is to refer to Ecuadorians as Hispanic, or, even more falsely, Latino, they are more accurately referred to simply as South Americans. The more accurate label is Achuar, Incan, Peruvian, Quitu, Cañari, Cara, or Tawantinsuyu.
Although Spaniard conquerors had a significant influence on the Ecuadorians, culture is the only trait which can be somewhat accurately described as Hispanic. Ethnically, the Ecuadorians are not, in any way, accurately described as Hispanic. Although there has been some interaction with the Ecuadorians by various African tribes, there has been no impact on the Ecuadorian culture nor, more importantly, ethnicity. For lack of a better term, and for the popularity of the more known ethnicity, perhaps the people of Ecuador are most accurately, yet still imperfectly, defined as Incan. |
