Historic Hillside District Area Quality of Life is Up After 30 Are Taken Down

The recent successful sweeping arrest of 30 prostitutes helps improve the quality of life for residents of the Hillside neighborhood.  The sting was long over due, but it wasn't the first in the area.  If the arrests stick, others may think twice before engaging in criminal acts, and that may improve the long-term reputation of the neighborhood in a city with a decaying public opinion.
Not surprising, most of the prostitutes were female.  Also not surprising, there were a few males.  While 56% were female, the remaining 44% were male.  The average age of the female professionals was 33, while their male counterparts average 39.
What is surprising is the high percentage of males in the bust.  As with similar operations in the City and many other cities across the country, the pictures of arrested prostitutes don't portray a flattering image, leading many to wonder how the servants find willing customers.
The police operation comes after long-standing support and requests to the department from the local residents.  Some of them said that they were concerned with safety, others quoted general moral values, and others stated fear of increased illegal drug activity as their primary motivation.  One thing is consistent among everyone who was interviewed: this is a great improvement.
