  1. Description of East Mountain Neighborhood
    1. East Mountain is in the southern-most part of Waterbury
    2. Elevations on East Mountain are some of the highest in the City (the Burnt Hill neighborhood boasts the highest elevation)
    3. The neighborhood is largely residential, and can be considered to be a "bedroom community"
    4. East Mountain has some of the steepest continued geographic grades in the City

  2. About the East Mountain Neighborhood
    1. ​East Mountain is a neighborhood in the South End of Waterbury, commonly thought to be in the East End of Waterbury
  3. History of the East Mountain Neighborhood
    1. ​The first-known mention of 'East Mountain" is in 1794.
    2. The East Mountain neighborhood was distinctly identified as such at least as early as 1852 when it was then referred to as the East Mountain District
    3. At that time, East Mountain was in the Town of Waterbury, and bordered the Borough of Waterbury to it's northwest, the Horse Pasture District to it's west, the town of Prospect to it's south and southeast, the East Farms District to it's east and northeast, and the Saw Mill Plain District to it's north-north-east.
    4. There is no mention of East Mountain, Clark Hill, or South Mountain in The History of Waterbury, which was published in 1858.
    5. "Wholesome" water was delivered, via underground pipes, to the center of Waterbury from the East Mountain Reservoir at least as early as 1896.
    6. The quality and practicality of water from the East Mountain "stream" or "brook" was chosen over other Waterbury-owned resources, including Quassapaug Lake, and Hancock Brook.
    7. The "good and abundant" water supply from the East Mountain brook or stream was identified in at least as early as 1856.
    8. This water source "rises in clear mountain springs" before later descending 175 feet
    9. The main roadway into East Mountain in the late 1800s was Piedmont Street.
  4. Term of East Mountain Neighborhood Prominence
    1. ​In or around 1833, the East Mountain District was named as one of fourteen districts in Waterbury.
    2. There is no known term of prominence for East Mountain aside from this naming and the above-mentioned water importance.
