Did you know that, in 1946, you couldn't buy roller skates?  Due to the war, ball bearings were not available, so it was next to impossible to buy rolle rskates anywhere near Waterbury - despite the fact that Waterbury was one of the biggest producers of ball bearings that the country ever had.
