About Great Brook NeighborhoodNot too many people refer to this neighborhood as the Great Brook Neighborhood. Until recently, any association which it related to was clearly defunct. Recently, the Lakewood Neighborhood Association has been re-kindled, and has taken on responsibility for the Great Brook Neighborhood. The most significant asset in the Great Brook Neighborhood is Great Brook Reservoir, which includes Lakewood Park. Many people think that the beach at Lakewood Park is Lakewood Lake, or Lake Wood, and that the pond at the intersection of Farmwood Road (formerly Chestnut Hill Road), Lakewood Road, and North Main Street, is Lakewood Pond or Lake Wood Pond. Neither is true, however; these, and others, are all part of the Great Brook Reservoir.

Great Brook Neighborhood Archived NewsSlashed His Throat.
Henry W. Mead, a resident of Chestnut Hill road district two miles north of this city, made an unsuccessful attempt to commit suicide by cutting his throat yesterday afternoon. For several weeks past Mead has been indulging rather freely in alcoholic spirits. It had somewhat affected his mental faculties, though since last Sunday it is said he has been perfectly sober, and so far as is known he has not touched any intoxicating'beverage. Yesterday afternoon he secured a razor which his wjre had hid and cut a bad gash in his neck. He will recover. Waterbury Evening Democrat; November 22, 1888 |
