The "Babe"
Got It From Waterbury

Babe Ruth is well-known for his infamous and long-standing hitting record, but not so well-known for whom he had to surpass in order to earn that record.  He surpassed Waterbury-born Hall Of Famer Roger Connor, who has a whole Wiki page dedicated to him.

New York Times
Proclaims:
"it is Waterbury that may have the richest baseball history of any city in Connecticut"!

Baseball Tidbit

In 1897, the Waterbury Indians offered to pay Walter Gordon, of Hebron, Connecticut, $75 per month to play baseball for the team.  This would equate to as much as $100,000 per year today.

Great Baseball Quotes

by Aron Wallad
I love what prominent baseball people have to say about the great ballplayers. They seem to eloquently capture what we are thinking. "It was his solemn duty to catch a ball that wasn't in the stands." - Monte Irvin (Newark Eagles OF, May 6, 1981), on Willie Mays

"Maybe they should see if his body is corked." - Howard 'Hojo' Johnson (NY Mets), on Bo Jackson, from Sports Illustrated, October 19, 1986

"When he took BP everybody would kind of stop what they were doing and watch." - Jim Kaat, former pitcher, on Mickey Mantle

"I played with him for nine years and marveled at how hard he hit and how fast he ran. How can anyone ever forget the catch he made on Gil Hodges' line drive to save Don Larsen's perfect game?" - Tony Kubek, former shortstop, on Mickey Mantle

"A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives." - Jackie Robinson

"Having Willie Stargell on your ball club is like having a diamond ring on your finger." Chuck Tanner

"Ted Williams was the greatest hitter I ever saw, but (Joe) DiMaggio was the greatest all around player." Bob Feller

"No one hit home runs the way Babe (Ruth) did. They were something special. They were like homing pigeons. The ball would leave the bat, pause briefly, suddenly gain its bearings, then take off for the stands." Lefty Gomez

"When Neil Armstong first set foot on the moon, he and all the space scientists were puzzled by an unidentifiable white object. I knew immediately what it was. That was a home run ball hit off me in 1933 by Jimmie Foxx." Lefty Gomez

"Every time Johnny Bench throws, everybody in baseball drools." - Harry Dalton

"He (Babe Ruth) hits a ball harder and further than any man I ever saw." - Bill Dickey
"He (Lou Gehrig) just went out and did his job every day." Bill Dickey

"He gets better every year, that's what's remarkable about him. Some guys are good and stay good. Some guys are good and get better. He reminds me of Kareem. Hubie Brown said that Kareem worked at the beginning of every season to improve some facet of his game. It's that way with the best, whatever the profession. That's the way this kid is."
Ed Bradley on 60 Minutes - Talking about Derek Jeter

"I think he was one of the greatest third basemen of all time. He had one of the sweetest swings I ever saw." - Teammate Johnny Logan - Referring to Eddie Mathews

"How good was Stan Musial? He was good enough to take your breath away." - (1989)Vin Scully
"When he (Maury Wills) runs, it's all downhill." Vin Scully

Seeing what these writers, ballplayers and managers has to say about these players lights up the page for me. I can visualize these players on the field hitting home runs, running with arms outstretched to catch a ball or throwing out a would be base runner trying to steal a base.

This is my baseball memorabilia.

Black and White Baseball Uniforms
of MLB Players

September 18, 2019

In the Major League Baseball players and every team expressed themselves in different styles like nickname on back on the custom shoes, On the whole field they are wearing pajamas, this year their custom baseball uniforms are bold black and white.

If we compare from past two weekend appearance on the field produced creative and colorful uniforms, with the first incarnation in 2017 inspired by youth league attire. Those seemed fun.

But this year, the color his literally disappeared, with all teams split into two camps. One team wears white, and the other wears black, with the home team given the choice.

MLB payer wears black and white uniforms this weekend.
This is the third year the league has held a Players’ Weekend but it’s the first time the uniforms have been so devoid of color in fact the previous two seasons gave us the complete opposite with intentionally bright and colorful designs.

"Inspired by players’ style choices when they are away from the field, the fashionable monochromatic baseball uniforms allow for each custom accessory design to stand out more than ever before", the league said in the press release upon their unveiling earlier this month.

Thankfully the Clubs wore their usual blue caps on Friday to add a splash of color to their game against the Nationals. For teams wearing solid white, however, it’s nearly impossible to read the logos and nicknames on each jersey. If you’re checking out highlights from across the league, every game looks the same.

Affordable Pitching Machines For Little League Organization
By: William Smith

This article was written to answer many of the most frequently asked questions on this topic. I hope you find all of this information helpful.

What you are about to discover may benefit you greatly.

The smaller youth baseball leagues want to contemplate finding as many tools of the pastime that will grant the greatest chance for youngsters to learn correctly and develop their skills as feasible. To begin with, you can discover pitching machine models that weigh just thirty pounds, which are extremely portable and able to be lifted and moved even by the youthful teammates in the little league ball clubs.

The lightweight pitching machines are simple to shift about, but their capacity to propel a ball is not spared at all. Even the lightest affordable pitching machines will bring a baseball at 54 miles per hour, and from a total footage of 60 feet. Usually these machines possess a rechargeable battery, which is extremely efficient, and removes the possible
peril of having a power cord lying across the diamond.

Compressed air provides the strength that propels each baseball or whiffle ball, and can send it reeling at either 25 to 65 miles per hour. Almost all affordable pitching machines can also double as a catching or outfielders practice run machine, as they will customarily be capable to toss above 125 feet high. With the optional external battery pack, capacity is doubled or tripled to over 1200 pitches, getting the entire line-up in adequate form!

Little League Approved-Heater Baseball Pitching Machine.
The single most efficient entry-level pitching machine available! At just over 50 pounds, it's very portable and convenient. Incredible accuracy to 50 MPH even at 60 feet! Throws baseballs, machine pitch balls, and wiffles. The newly redesigned pitching wheel has been upgraded from molded rubber to an air filled tire to improve pitch accuracy and reduce wear on the ball. Ask for free auto feeder which should be included.

The Pitch Master is a versatile two wheel pitching machine that throws curves, sliders and fastballs, as well as fly balls & grounders for fielding practice. The Pitch Master throws 2.3 oz durafoam balls and has an optional auto feeder and power station for portability. Throws curves and fastballs up to 70 MPH.

Cobra II Baseball and Softball:
This 2-wheel combo baseball & softball machine is priced to get your attention, and it has all the features of other 2-wheel baseball pitching machines. It's a bit lighter, is very nimble and offers a long-life wheel. Should include kit for both baseball & softball use.
