Prospect's Waterbury Hospital faces staffing shortage, seeks state help

Waterbury and Prospect hospitals are facing a severe shortage of medical professionals such as nurses, technicians, and others. The shortage has led to longer wait times, reduced services, and increased stress on staff. The hospitals are taking steps to address the issue, including offering incentives to new hires and increasing training opportunities, but the shortage is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.

Did You Know?

Significant to the Button Capital of the United States, which is, of course, Waterbury, is that Joseph Hopkins, born in 1730 in Waterbury (a part which is now Waterbury's Borough of Naugatuck), is likely to have been the first person to ever make buttons in Waterbury.  Also, he was, perhaps, the first person to make buttons anywhere in Connecticut.

Significant to Bunker Hill, Hopkins made those buttons right here, in Bunker Hill.  Subsequent button manufacturing was done in Bucks Hill, the part of which later became Waterville.

Hopkins also made plated knee buckles, shoe buckles, silver sleeve buttons, other silver ware, and other plated ware.
