History of Basketball @ Kennedy

Kennedy High School in Waterbury, Connecticut, has a rich and storied history when it comes to basketball. The school has produced some of the state's top players and teams, and its legacy in the sport is still felt today.

Basketball first arrived at Kennedy in the 1960s, when the school fielded its first team. However, it wasn't until the 1970s and 1980s that Kennedy began to make a name for itself on the basketball court. Led by coaches like Ed Generali and Don Jarrett, the Kennedy Eagles quickly became one of the top teams in the state, winning multiple championships and producing several top-level players.

One of the most notable players to come out of Kennedy during this time was John Pinone, who played for the Eagles in the late 1970s before going on to play for Villanova University. Pinone was known for his scoring ability and leadership on the court, and he helped to cement Kennedy's place as a basketball powerhouse.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Kennedy continued to produce top-level players, including Timmy Byrnes and Ronnie Williams. Byrnes, who played for the Eagles in the early 1980s, was a dominant force on the court, earning All-State honors and leading Kennedy to multiple championships. Williams, who played for Kennedy in the early 1990s, was also a standout player, known for his scoring ability and strong defensive play.

In the 2000s and 2010s, Kennedy experienced a resurgence in basketball, led by coach Chris Sarlo. Sarlo, who had played for Kennedy in the 1990s, returned to the school as a coach and quickly built a powerhouse team. The Kennedy Eagles won multiple state championships during Sarlo's tenure, and he went on to become one of the most successful coaches in Connecticut basketball history.
