    Ansonia

Ansonia is just south of Seymour and north of Derby, lying between Woodbridge and Shelton.

Ansonia rests along the Naugatuck River, and is accessible via Connecticut State Roads Routes 115 and 334, and Connecticut State Highway Route 8.  Manufacturing is the primary industry of Ansonia, and the town enjoys a very concentrated downtown area.

The town is governed by a Mayor and Town Council, and its population hovers around 20,000.  This valley town has been in existence for just shy of 125 years, and includes just over 6 square miles of geography.

All of what is Ansonia came from part of Derby.

According to fiction author and comedian J. Rivers, due to the many decades of having a much needed mental institution in the downtown area of Ansonia, and the fact that the town enjoys an industrial income (and the river is its dump), and the fact that it is downstream from the infamous Brass City of the World (and its toxic waste), many townfolk joke at the mental and physical deformities of its inhabitants; others agree without jest.

Ansonia is a member of the prestigious All American Valley.

    Beacon Falls

Beacon Falls is nestled by the towns of Bethany, Seymour, and Oxford, and Waterbury's Borrough of Naugatuck.  Beacon Falls was carved out of parts of each of the above towns.  These New Haven County towns lie about halfway between the Connecticut River and the New York Border.

Beacon falls rests along the Naugatuck River, and is accessible via Connecticut State Route 42 and Connecticut State Highway Route 8.  This valley town is governed by town meetings, and has a population of around 6,000.  Beacon Falls has been around for a bit over 140 years, and includes a bit under 10 square miles of geography.

    Bethlehem

Bethlehem is in Litchfield County, surrounded by the towns of Watertown, Morris, Washington, Roxbury, and Woodbury.  The land of Bethlehem was once part of Woodbury.

Bethlehem is largely an agricultural town, sparsely populated, and can be accessed via Connecticut State Routes 61 and 132; however, there are other paved roadways in town.

The town is governed by town meetings, and has a population of around 3,600 (the whole town, not just at the meetings) - although that can change dramatically if a medium to large family moves in or out.

The geographic footprint includes just over 19 square miles.  The hilly and rocky terrain makes for a picturesque landscape, and promotes excellent waterflow and drainage; therefore, air humitidy is typically lower and the soil is typically more fertile than other, more level areas.

    Cheshire

Cheshire is surrounded by the towns of Meriden, Wallingford, Hamben, Bethany, Prospect, and Wolcott, and the City of Waterbury, and by the Hartford County town of Southington.

Cheshire is entirely a former piece of Wallingford; she later gave up some of herself to land which, with more land from Waterbury, became Prospect.

Cheshire is also known as "The Bedding Plant Capital of Connecticut".

    Middlebury

Middlebury is surrounded by the City of Waterbury, Waterbury's Borrough of Naugatuck, and the towns of Oxford and Southbury, and the Litchfield County towns of Woodbury and Watertown.

What is now Middlebury used to be parts of Waterbury, Southbury, and Woodbury; it is from these -buries which the town name was derived.

Unlike many other towns in western Connecticut, Middlebury has managed to destroy the plentiful acreage of farmland without building ugly little housing complexes or planned-and-canned neighborhoods.  Therefore, even the newer homes have maintained an aura of affluence and property pride.

    Naugatuck (Borough)

Naugatuck is surrounded by the City of Waterbury, and the towns of Prospect, Bethany, Beacon Falls, Oxford, and Middlebury.

The Borrough was carved out of pieces of Oxford, Bethany, and Waterbury.  Naugatuck is both a Town on its own, and a Borough of the City of Waterbury.  Naugatuck includes Union City.

Primarily a manufacturing town, it lost major producers in the chemical and rubber industries, but managed to thrive.  The town hosts many annoyingly hilly, windy, and narrow roads, and yet the drivers seem to enjoy stopping every (seemingly) 10 feet for yet another traffic light or stop sign.  The town is dissected by the Henry Darcey Memorial Highway, further disrupting what might have been natural traffic flow.

There are several parks throughout the town in strategically located positions, and Naugatuck is the home of Hop Brook Golf Club (the social sporting fields, not the shaft with a hammer on the end).  The hilly and rocky terrain make for attractive vistas, and many beautiful homes are planted throughout much of the land.

    Oakville

    See Watertown.

    Oxford

Oxford is surrounded by the towns of Southbury, Middlebury, Beacon Falls, Seymour, Monroe, and Newtown, and Waterbury's Borrough of Naugatuck; its southern tip kisses Shelton's northern tip.

The town can be accessed via Connecticut State Roads Routes 6, 34, 42, 67, and 188, and Connecticut State Highway Route 8, and United States Highway Route 84.

The town is run by town meetings, has a population of around 13,000, and a footprint of nearly 33 square miles.

While Oxford has an important place in American history, it is perhaps best known for allowing flying vessels, such as small airplanes and helicopters, to land at its airport (which is labeled "Waterbury Airport", but sometimes "Waterbury-Oxford Airport" by Connecticut's Department of Transportation).

Oxford was made up of parts of Southbury and Derby, and it later spun off part of its geography to the town of Beacon Falls and Waterbury's Borough of Naugatuck.

    Prospect

Prospect is surrounded by the towns of Cheshire, Hamden, and Bethany, and by the City of Waterbury's Borrough of Naugatuck, and by the City of Waterbury.

Prospect was derived from chunks of Waterbury and Cheshire, and is now better than 180 years old.  In very recent years, the formerly quaint drive-through village has morphed into a semi-quiet town.

    Plymouth

Plymouth is a Litchfield County town, surrounded by other Litchfield County towns of Watertown, Thomaston, and Harwinton, and the Hartford County's City of Bristol, and by the town of Wolcott and the City of Waterbury; Plymouth includes the village of Terryville.  Ironically, Terryville often surfaces on a map while Plymouth lays hidden; Plymouth also includes Pequabuck.

Plymouth in its entirety was spun off from Watertown, and it later gave up a chunk of itself which became Thomaston.  In a few short years, the town will enjoy its birthday for the 220th time.

    Seymour

Seymour is surrounded by the towns of Oxford, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Woodbridge, and Ansonia, and the Fairfield County town of Shelton.

The valley manufacturing town can be accessed via Connecticut State Roads Routes 67, 113, and 115, and Connecticut State Highway Route 8.  It is located along the Naugatuck River, and the junction of some other river, and yet another river.

The population of nearly 17,000 is governed by town meetings, and the geographic footprint falls shy of 15 acres.  Seymour has been around for over 160 years, and came from Derby, latter spinning off part of itself to become part of Beacon Falls.

Seymour holds the distinction of being the first factory town in America.

    Southbury

Southbury is surrounded by the towns of Middlebury and Oxford, and the Litchfield County towns of Bridgewater, Roxbury, and Woodbury, and the Fairfield County town of Newtown, while it does just kiss the western-most tip of Brookfield.

Southbury came from Woodbury, and then gave up some of itself to become part of Middlebury and part of Oxford.  This town is more than 25 years old.

    Southington

Southington is the most southern town of Hartford County, surrounded by other Hartford County towns of Bristol, Plainville, New Britain, and Berlin, and the towns of Meriden, Cheshire, and Wolcott.

Southington in its entirety came from Farmington.

    Terryville

    See Plymouth.

    Thomaston

Thomaston is a Litchfield County town, surrounded by other Litchfield County towns of Harwinton, Plymouth, Watertown, and Litchfield, and it kisses Morris; its southern-most tip may also kiss the northern-most tip of the City of Waterbury.

Thomaston came from part of Plymouth, and is over 130 years old.

    Watertown

Watertown is a Litchfield County town, surrounded by other Litchfield County towns of Woodbury, Bethlehem, Morris, Thomaston, and Plymouth, and the town of Middlebury, and the City of Waterbury; this includes the township of Oakville.

Watertown came entirely from the City of Waterbury, and, when this cellular division occurred, the town was larger than its parent City - by about a half square mile.

    Wolcott

The town of Wolcott is surrounded by the town of Cheshire, and the City of Waterbury, and the Litchfield County town of Plymouth, and the Hartford County City of Bristol, and the Hartford County town of Southington.

Wolcott was born of Southington and Waterbury; it was supposed to be named Farmingbury, since, when it first applied for township, the land was part of Waterbury and Farmington.  Lore suggests that former State Governors dragged their feet, effectively denying incorporation, for many years.  However, upon application to then new Governor Oliver Wolcott, the town received its certificate of township in very short order - so, the town fathers honored this action by making a namesake to their Governor.  The land plot boasts just over 20 square miles.  The town still has a neighborhood called Farmingbury, which, despite housing the current Town Hall, is clearly no epicenter of activity (although it does have a 4-way intersection, a church, and the Board of Education building - making it Wolcott's uptown downtown, but don't blink - lest you will miss it).

Wolcott has neighborhoods: Alphabet Trees, Becar Hill, Cedar, Chestnut Hill, Clinton Hill, Compounce Mountain, Coe Hill, Farmingbury, Scoville,  Hitchcock, Lindsley Hill, North End, Tame Buck, Wolf Hill, and Woodtick.

    Woodbury

Woodbury is in Litchfield County, surrounded by other Litchfield County towns of Roxbury, Washington, Bethlehem, and Watertown, and by Middlebury and Southbury.

Like Waterbury (and very few other townships in the State), Woodbury "came from the woods", meaning that it was granted incorporation by the State of Connecticut in and of itself, and not born of by any other incorporated town.  Later, she begat all of Southbury, all of Bethlehem, all of Roxbury, and part of Washington, and part of Middlebury.
